PRESIDENT'S LETTER

As your chief volunteer, I, the SOCSA Foundation Board of Directors and Board Advisors welcome you to the 2008-2009 SOCSA school year at Dana Hills High School!

We look forward to working together to accomplish the volunteer and fundraising goals through events and the operating goals of the Foundation so as to continue our support of our students through the year.

I'm proud to report that during the 2007-08 school year that your 100% all volunteer SOCSA Foundation Board of Directors and Board Advisors:
  • Raised a record $254,934.00 in support of the SOCSA Academy and arts education at Dana Hills High School.

  • Successfully lobbied CUSD Trustees to unanimously approve acceptance of a $3 million match grant and approval to design and build a new Dana Hills High School Performing Arts Center.

  • Issued a total of 16 Scholarships to graduating SOCSA senior students totaling a record $11,250.00.

  • Coordinated SOCSA Opera Night Gala at The Bower's Museum in March 2008 and SOCSA Showcase 2008 in June for the year-end Student Art Exhibition & Performance at the world-famous Orange County Performing Artscenter's Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

  • Provided support and coordination of over 10,000 hours of volunteer time in support of the SOCSA Academy.

  • Managed and promoted the SOCSArts.org web site, receiving over 17,000 unique visitors during the year.

  • Worked with local city mayors and attended local city council meetings to promote the SOCSA Academy and events.

  • Made front page and several other news stories in both local papers, The Dana Point Times and The Dana Point News.

  • Met with California Department of Education's State Superintendent, Jack O'Connell, to promote the SOCSA Academy and to ensure his support of arts education in our public schools.

  • Coordinated and secured Music Director and Conductor of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, Carl St. Clair, to visit with and teach intermediate and advanced SOCSA DHHS Orchestra classes for a day.

  • And much, much more...

A NEW PERFORMING ARTS CENTER AT DANA HILLS HIGH SCHOOL... This year we continue to work with our CUSD Trustees toward the goal of building a new $13 million, 23,000 square foot Performing Arts Center on the campus of Dana Hills High School. There are many challenges that lie ahead, but with your generous support we will see this dream become a reality.
