2008/09 SOCSA Academy Student Registration Information THIS IS IMPORTANT, SO PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY... It's back to school time! Well, almost... :-) The 2008-2009 School Year at Dana Hills SOCSA Academy starts in about one month on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, and all SOCSA Students are required to fill out their SOCSA Student registration forms and pay the SOCSA Student tuition fees BEFORE school year begins. There are three steps to follow for all SOCSA students to enroll for the 2008-2009 SOCSA Academy school year at Dana Hills High School: STEP #1 - PICKUP A 2008-2009 SOCSA STUDENT REGISTRATION PACKET ON AUGUST 5, 6 or 7 at DANA HILLS HIGH SCHOOL. STEP #2 - FILL OUT YOUR SOCSA REGISTRATION FORMS AT HOME AND READ THE 2008-2009 SOCSA ACADEMY HANDBOOK. STEP #3 - DELIVER COMPLETED 2008-2009 SOCSA STUDENT REGISTRATION FORMS AND PROVIDE PAYMENT DURING DHHS REGISTRATION. SOCSA Academy Registration details listed below applies to ALL SOCSA students enrolling in dance, instrumental, theatre, visual arts and/or vocal classes at Dana Hills High School. STEP #1 - PICKUP SOCSA Student Registration Packet The 2008-2009 SOCSA Student Registration Packet contains all the student forms and information for the SOCSA Academy student and their family for the coming school year. SOCSA Student Registration packets WILL NOT BE MAILED. You must pick them up from the big blue SOCSA tent out front of Dana Hills High School this week which is being held during the exact same times that you will be picking up your DHHS Student registration packet for this year. SPECIAL NOTE FOR ALL BAND/ORCHESTRA STUDENTS: All students enrolling in band and/or orchestra classes for the 2008-2009 school year are required to fill out the SOCSA Student Registration forms this year. WHEN: You may stop by at any time during these three dates and times: Tuesday, August 5th 9:00am to 1:00pm Wednesday, August 6th 3:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, August 7th 9:00am to 1:00pm WHERE: Dana Hills High School (look for the big blue SOCSA tent). You can simply drive into the parking lot, pull up to the SOCSA tent and a SOCSA volunteer will hand you a SOCSA Student Registration packet. NOT AVAILABLE AT ANY OF THESE DATES/TIMES? Ask a friend or family member to pick-up a SOCSA Registration packet for you. There will also be SOCSA Registration packets available during DHHS student registration. QUESTIONS? STEP #2 Fill Out: SOCSA Student Registration Forms Read: SOCSA Academy Handbook We have consolidated the number of SOCSA Student registration forms this year, but each student and their parent/guardian will need to fill out and sign all forms and make their student registration payments. A printed copy of the 2008-2009 SOCSA Academy Handbook is provided in the registration packet and each student is required to read and agree to the terms listed in the handbook. To give you a head start, a copy of the 2008-2009 SOCSA Academy Handbook is now available in PDF format on the SOCSArts.org website or by clicking here. Everything that a SOCSA student and their family will need to know for the school year and more can be found in the Handbook. We encourage every SOCSA student to read this together with their parent or guardian closely as each SOCSA student is required to know all the information in the SOCSA Academy Handbook. Please note a few important dates which are mentioned in detail in the Welcome Letter from SOCSA's Artistic Director, Ray Woods, in the 2008-2009 SOCSA Academy Handbook: SOCSA New Student Orientation: Wednesday, August 27th, 2:00 p.m. at Dana Hills High School in the Porthole Theatre (new students only) Annual SOCSA Picnic: Saturday, September 6th at Doheny State Beach Park, 1 to 5 p.m. (please see picnic flyer at the end of this eMail) Mandatory SOCSA Parent Night: Wednesday, September 17th, 7 p.m. in the Porthole Theatre STEP #3 Return: SOCSA Student Registration Forms Payment: SOCSA Fees (check or credit card) Please return completed SOCSA Registration Forms and provide payment at the SOCSA Student Registration table in the mall at DHHS during DHHS student registration. You are requested to attend the registration date and time based on your SOCSA student's grade and the first initial of their last name. Please make your checks out to the SOCSA FOUNDATION or bring your credit card to SOCSA Student Registration to pay for your SOCSA Student's tuition. QUESTIONS? Those families with financial hardship may contact Mr. Woods to apply for tuition scholarship. WANT TO HELP? We still need several student or parent volunteers to help process SOCSA Student registration packets on these dates/times: * Monday, Aug. 11th; 7:15 a.m.- Noon (Seniors) * Tuesday, Aug. 12th; 7:15 a.m. - Noon (Juniors) * Monday, Aug. 25th; 7:15 a.m. Noon (Makeup Day) You can volunteer for a few hours or the entire shift... any time you volunteer will help us out! We also need a few volunteers on August 6th (3-7 p.m.) for registration packet pickup distribution.
